Carytown/ Museum District

The Museum District is located between the Boulevard on the east and I-95 on the west. This area gets its name from being the area where the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Virginia Historical Society reside in. Many homes in this area were built in the 19th and 20th century, however there are schools, restaurants and religious institutions in the area as well. With a short drive to downtown Richmond, VCU, UR and surrounding counties, the Museum District is a very appealing place to live.

Carytown is known for being an urban and "hip" retail district along Cary Street in the Museum District. During the warmer months many family-oriented festivals such as the Watermelon Festival take place in the Carytown area. There are over 230 diverse restaurants, shops and offices, as well the famous Byrd Theater, which has been in operation since 1928. The Cary Street shopping center first opened in 1938 and many of the restaurants and shops today are located in historic buildings from the 30s. Apartments and single-family homes line the bordering streets of Carytown, which makes it easily accessible for people living close by.
